Here's how to play Fortnite
With Fortnite Chapter 3, the game continues to evolve, and while the island has altered dramatically over the years, the essential mechanics have remained largely unchanged – thus our Fortnite beginner's guide will point you in the correct way toward your first Victory Royale. Take your seat on the combat bus, thank the driver, and prepare to plunge into battle as you read on for plenty of Fortnite tips and techniques that will demonstrate how to play Fortnite to your strengths...
1. You are unable to take anything from Spawn Island with you
When you first arrive on Spawn Island, you'll find guns, ammo, and building supplies strewn about, ready to be taken. You can take them, but they will not accompany you onto the Fortnite map. Treat Spawn Island like a training ground for Fortnite, even if you'll just be there for a minute or two until the game fills up with 100 players. You can shoot anyone in the area but the firearms will do no damage, or if you want to be a temporary pacifist, try creating a brief sniping shack (more details on how to do that below in point 8).
2. Wait as long as possible to drop from the Battle Bus
3. Your glider will automatically deploy
There is no way to delay the deployment of your glider as you fall from the Battle Bus; it opens automatically when you reach a particular height above the earth below. It's as simple as that. Once you've landed, it merely folds up, so be patient and make a beeline for the next structure.
4. Before consuming a huge shield potion, drink tiny ones first
Small and large blue bottles may be found all over the area, giving you 25 and 50 shield, respectively, if you use your right trigger to drink them (the same button you use for firing your gun). You can't drink any more little bottles until you have 50 or higher shield, so make sure to drink them first so they don't take up a spot in your inventory. You may swallow huge shield potions regardless of your shield's level, so if you only have one, go ahead and pop the top and gulp it down as soon as possible.
5. Assault rifles or SMGs are excellent first-time weapons
When you're learning how to play Fortnite, stick to assault rifles or SMGs as a general rule. Sniper rifles are ineffective beneath 75 meters, therefore keep one on hand but only use it in close quarters battle if absolutely necessary. Another thing to keep in mind when learning how to play Fortnite is that you should prioritize your shotgun if you're shooting someone up close and personal. Shotguns, of course, do a lot of damage and are great for one-hit kills, so keep one on you while you're exploring houses, basements, or other tight locations.
6. Keep an eye on the rarity scale
Grey guns are the most frequent, followed by green, blue, purple, and gold in that order. Gold firearms are extremely strong, so if you see one lying around, don't pass it up. To bring up your inventory, press Up on the D-pad, and hover over the firearms to check how much damage they inflict if you're having difficulties picking which to keep. You should generate free v bucks to complete all the quests and get the skin that you want. There are many ways to get free v bucks, but we recommend you to use this route because It is a 100% proven working method.
7. Listen to music with headphones
Make sure you have a good pair of headphones on your ears, because hearing footfall (or, more likely, gunfire) and figuring out which direction they're coming from might mean the difference between life and death in Fortnite. Knowing which way the players are approaching offers you vital seconds to prepare, whether it's switching to a shotgun or erecting a rapid cover structure.
8. Before you heal, build a cover
While we're on the subject of construction, always, always, always construct barriers around yourself before you begin to heal. Healing and shield potions both take a few seconds to consume (up to 10 seconds for a large healing kit), during which time you can't move, shoot, or do anything but twist the camera. As a result, you're quite susceptible, and those walls will prevent any bullets from striking your face. There's no need to find an empty plot of land because walls can clip onto cliffs and hills.
9. There’s fall damage above three storeys
10. In a fight, always strive to gain the upper hand
You want to be as high as possible when things start to get sticky and you find yourself in a gunfight with one of the 100 people roaming around the map. That's not the case. Make sure you're higher than your opponent by either building ramps into the sky or continually jumping (which has the added bonus of making you harder to hit). An effective approach is to construct four walls in a square around yourself, then construct a ramp up to the wall facing your attacker. This will give you a nice sniping perch from which you can escape while reloading. Simply keep repeating the building process upwards (jump to build below your feet) until you're in a makeshift tower with the upper hand – and a pistol, and a grenade, and so on...
11. Keep grenades, bandages, or shield potions in your inventory
It's worthwhile to have at least one of the items listed above in your toolbar. Grenades are an excellent technique to take off some of your opponent's cover, particularly if you aim for the lowest area of their structure. Once the lowest level is demolished, the rest of the building will collapse, leaving them exposed and vulnerable to your gunfire. Extra healing and shields will come in handy when you're cornered but don't want to give up, or you may share them with your squadmate if they're in desperate need of help.
12. Don’t destroy trees completely
13. There are no longer different types of bombs
14. Make sure you've selected the right mode from the lobby
When you first start the game, it will attempt to place you in a squad with all of the positions filled by random people. You could like to play solo or in a duo instead, so just change the game mode first. Whatever mode you're in, it'll read "Play!" directly above it.
15. Crouching minimises the noise your feet make
16. To earn the majority of the awards, you must purchase the Battle Pass
Although some benefits are available without spending any money, the Battle Pass is required to obtain the finest skins and other things. It cost 950 V-Bucks, therefore you'll have to get the cheapest V-Bucks bundle, which is $9.99 / £7.99. After that, it's just a matter of playing and completing as many tasks as possible to begin earning some stuff.
17. With your pickaxe, you can break (nearly) anything
Don't worry if you think you've become trapped inside a structure or created yourself inside one. With your pickaxe, you can shatter (nearly) anything, so start crushing your way out. But be careful: that little red circle sign implies you're creating a noise that anyone close can hear, so take your time getting out of your current predicament.
18. In the locker, you can alter your skin, stickers, and emotes
Your Locker contains all of your skins, banner icons, gliders, harvesting tools, loading screen, contrails, emotes, dances, sprays, and more. Before each match, you can switch them in and out from here, but you won't be able to modify anything in-game, so make sure you're happy with your appearance and equipped equipment before you drop.
19. Practice with Battle Lab mode to get a feel for the map
Learning the map is one of the most important components of being better at Fortnite. If you're not succeeding in public games, switch to Battle Lab mode and select Create A Battle Lab to explore the map at your leisure. From Slurpy Swamp to Steamy Stacks and everywhere in between, you have complete control over the battle royale island. In Battle Lab, all conceivable chests and vehicles are guaranteed to spawn, so you may discover where each chest is likely to be and become familiar with your favorite areas.
20. Make it a habit to collect stuff while you run
While the person with the best aim will usually win a fight, constructing is critical to giving yourself the best potential edge. To create, though, you'll need materials, which can only be gained by harvesting them. The most frequent material is wood, which may be used to destroy everything from trees and plants to chairs and closets. To get the most materials, try out which structures give you the most, then harvest them as you run from one area to the next.
